iOS 27.3 Beta: What It Changes for Live Translation on iPhone and AirPods

iOS 27.3 beta 1 arrived on November 3, 2026, for registered developers. The biggest Live Translation news in it is about one country: China mainland gets Apple Intelligence, and Live Translation is part of the first set.

If you live anywhere else, you are probably asking a simpler question: does the iOS 27.3 beta add languages, AirPods or iPhones to Live Translation? From what has been reported so far, no. Here is what changes, what stays the same, and whether the beta is worth installing.

iOS 27.3 beta release date

Apple had said the first beta would come “next week” in late October. It landed on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, one day earlier than some outlets expected. MacRumors and 9to5Mac both reported it that day.

A public beta usually follows a few days to a couple of weeks after the developer beta. MacRumors expects the final iOS 27.3 in December.

What iOS 27.3 beta changes for Live Translation

The change is regional. Until now, Apple Intelligence was off on iPhones bought in China mainland, and for people there with a China mainland Apple Account. With the iOS 27.3 beta, developers in China can turn it on after updating.

9to5Mac lists real-time translation across Messages, FaceTime, Phone and compatible AirPods. MacRumors says the AirPods part works with AirPods 4 with ANC, AirPods Pro 2 and later models. Apple uses Alibaba’s Qwen model for parts of Apple Intelligence in China.

What is not in the China set: Siri AI, the Siri app and the newer Apple Intelligence features from iOS 27.

Apple’s own feature availability page still marks Chinese (Mandarin, Simplified) as “not available in China mainland” today. That is normal during a beta. We expect it to change with the December release, and we will update this post when it does.

Does iOS 27.3 add new Live Translation languages?

Not so far. Live Translation with AirPods still covers the same 11 languages: English (US and UK), Spanish (Spain), French, German, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Japanese, Korean, and Chinese (Simplified and Traditional).

So Turkish, Arabic and Mexican Spanish are still missing from the AirPods feature. If those are the languages you need, the beta won’t help. Our Live Translation languages guide keeps the full list.

Which iPhones and AirPods work with iOS 27.3 Live Translation?

The same ones as in iOS 27.0. iOS 27.3 runs on the same iPhones as iOS 27. But Live Translation needs Apple Intelligence, and that still means iPhone 15 Pro or later.

Should you install the iOS 27.3 beta for Live Translation?

For most people, no. Outside China, the beta gives you nothing new for Live Translation. Betas can also have bugs, drain the battery faster or break apps you rely on when you travel.

It makes sense if you are a developer in China mainland and want to test Apple Intelligence now. Back up your iPhone first.

1. Back up your iPhone in Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup.
2. Go to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates.
3. Choose the iOS 27 developer beta, then go back and install iOS 27.3 beta 1.
4. For Live Translation, turn on Apple Intelligence in Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri.

Once Apple opens the public beta, the same Beta Updates menu shows an iOS 27 public beta option for anyone signed up at Apple’s Beta Software Program.

If your iPhone or AirPods are left out

iOS 27.3 does not move the device line. An iPhone 13, iPhone 14 or base iPhone 15 still can’t run Apple Intelligence, and AirPods 3 still can’t do Apple’s Live Translation.
